Separate the asking price from your monthly budget
Start with an insurance quote for the vehicle you are considering. Add fuel, routine maintenance, parking, and any lender payment. Our ownership-budget tool helps organize your estimates. An online asking price does not include every transaction charge, so request the itemized purchase total from staff.
Know what your trade actually contributes
An allowance for your current car and the amount owed to its lender are different numbers. Obtain a current payoff quote and ask how it will be handled. Review any gap separately from the selling price of the replacement vehicle. A trade appraisal request is an estimate process, not a guaranteed offer.
Arrive with two comparisons
Bring a vehicle shortlist and a written budget. Compare the actual cars’ mileage, condition, equipment, and service information. If you have lender offers, compare their amount financed, APR, term, and total repayment. The lowest monthly figure alone does not tell you which purchase costs less.
