Credit and car buying, explained simply

Credit is one part of a lender’s decision. A score alone does not tell you what a car will cost or guarantee that a lender will approve you.

01

Separate a vehicle choice from a loan offer

You can research cars and prepare a budget before applying for credit. Ask each lender what information it needs and when it will check your credit. Never send Social Security numbers through a general contact form.

02

Know what you are comparing

Write down the APR, amount financed, term, monthly payment, and total payments for each offer. An affordable-looking payment may run for many more months than another offer.

03

Be careful with promises

Treat “guaranteed approval” or a promised score increase with caution. Get actual terms in writing. These guides are educational; Patriot Auto does not offer in-house financing or guarantee lender approval.

Can this site tell me whether I will be approved?

No. Only the lender can make a decision after reviewing an application. Our tools are estimates, not offers.
